Growing in your #Leadership Role/Promotion?
If you're wondering why you haven't moved the needle or grown in your leadership role despite your effort, hard-work and preparation, I promise you that you wouldn't be alone. If you've wanted to climb the ladder as a #HealthcareLeader, but for whatever reason, something gets in your way and it's not your boss, then you might be stuck in the performance zone.
Eduardo Briceno in the #TedTalk video attached talks about the differences between the learning zone and the performance zone. The learning zone is where you develop, grow and make mistakes to be a better "_____" (fill in the gap with #HealthcareLOT), while the performance zone is where you execute what you've learned. What I take from his theory is that we sometimes learn a little and then think we've perfected what it entails to be the desired leader, as a result, we go into execution mode and spend ample time in the performance zone. Because we weren't appropriately prepared and only spent a smidgen in the learning zone, we fail in the performance zone. The truth is we all need to spend more time in the learning zone, even when we've "arrived" at the said #leadership role.
If you know a Medical Doctor in a teaching institution, one thing that can be said about their is their aptitude to reading. Despite earning a prestigious degree and the right to practice medicine, staying abreast of current trends in Medicine is a must for them. So also should aspiring and current #Healthcare leaders.
